Besides guge.cn (Google China), Baidu.com is China and East Asia’s most powerful and supported search engine service. It features many of the same services Google offers, i.e. Maps, Dictionary, News, Image Search, Social Search, Book/Scholar Search, etc. However, one of Baidu’s most powerful search tools that Google completely lacks is its MP3 music search engine. Baidu’s music search engine (Baidu MP3) is able to find a variety of music types including .mp3, .wma, .rm, Real format, Quick format, etc. I can usually find the music I want by using the correct search terms and language. That’s the down side, Baidu is mainly a Chinese web site. Visitors will find that almost everything at Baidu is in Chinese; therefore, the search terms are also supposed to be in Chinese. It, in competition with Google China, is one of the best Asian character (Chinese) search engines and thus will find the music, site, or file you want, given that your search terms were in Chinese. However, many music files are in English and thus English search terms will still probably return some valid results. In addition to Baidu’s powerful music search engine, its map feature is also one of the best in China. If you’re ever interested in viewing the maps and streets of China, Baidu Di Tu (Baidu Map) offers a very complete and comprehensive map of China. Of course, it again is in Chinese and it’s all free.
